The Vampire Facial®: How PRP Rejuvenates Your Skin

The “Vampire Facial®” has become one of the most recognizable names in aesthetic medicine — thanks in part to celebrity endorsement — but behind the dramatic name is a genuinely useful regenerative technique grounded in real dermatological science: platelet-rich plasma (PRP) combined with microneedling.

What It Actually Involves

The treatment combines two components:

  1. Microneedling — a device creates controlled, microscopic channels in the skin, triggering the body’s natural wound-healing response and stimulating collagen and elastin production.
  2. PRP application — plasma concentrated from your own blood is applied to the skin during and after the microneedling process, delivering growth factors directly into the newly created channels where they can have the greatest effect.

The result is a treatment that combines mechanical collagen stimulation with a biological boost from your own regenerative platelets.

What It Can Help With

Patients typically pursue this treatment for:

·       Fine lines and early signs of aging

·       Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores

·       Mild acne scarring

·       Dullness and uneven tone

·       General skin rejuvenation and a refreshed appearance

What the Appointment Looks Like

A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to minimize discomfort. The microneedling device is passed over the treatment area, followed by application of the PRP. Most appointments take 45–60 minutes. Mild redness and sensitivity (similar to a mild sunburn) is expected for 1–3 days afterward, and most patients return to normal activities the next day, though makeup is typically avoided for 24 hours.

Setting Realistic Expectations

Collagen remodeling takes time — visible improvement typically develops over 4–6 weeks, with continued improvement over the following months as new collagen matures. Most patients benefit from a series of 2–3 treatments spaced several weeks apart for optimal results, followed by periodic maintenance sessions. This is a gradual rejuvenation process, not an instant transformation, and we’re upfront about that during consultation.

Who Should Consider It — and Who Shouldn’t

This treatment is not appropriate for patients with active skin infections, certain blood disorders, or those on specific blood-thinning medications, among other considerations reviewed during a proper pre-treatment assessment.

A Medical, Not Spa, Standard

At VitalMed Clinic, this treatment is performed under physician-led protocols with proper sterile technique and a real pre-treatment skin assessment — the difference between a medical-grade regenerative treatment and a trend borrowed for a quick spa upsell.
